Here at Western House we love nothing more than sharing our couples special days with them, and with this in mind we thought we would launch a new feature on our website, Real Life Weddings so we can share some of them with you!
We will update this page seasonally featuring interviews and photographs of some of our wonderful couples and their wedding stories. We are launching this brand new feature with Mr & Mrs Finlay who had a beautiful winter wedding with us back in November 2016.
We caught up with Jemma and Michael a few weeks before their big day to ask them all about their plans for the wedding and of course, the proposal!
4. What has been the best part of the planning process?
This is something I have dreamed of since I was a little girl so the entire process has been wonderful!
5. What has been the hardest part of planning?
Making the seating plans and ensuring we have accommodated all of our guests.
6. What would be your biggest piece of advice to newly engaged couples?
Keep an open mind, don’t rule anything out and listen to your heart and what is best for you. Definitely do lots of research as there is always a way to get exactly what you want, you may just have to be flexible with dates, for example we are having a winter wedding which means the cost is better so we can afford to have all the extras that we really wanted. We would say that the venue is everything, without the correct venue nothing else will matter, we booked our venue first and planned everything else from there. The list of suggested suppliers that Western House gave us was amazing and so helpful.
7. What are you both most looking forward to on the big day?
Jemma: Walking down the aisle to see Michael and the moment we are pronounced Husband & Wife.
Michael: Seeing Jemma walk down the aisle.
Western House has just been the perfect venue to plan our Wedding and the perfect venue for us. If you are considering Western House then just go for it, make your budget work and do it!
1. How did you meet?
We met online and had our first date playing crazy golf at Xscape, now nearly 3 years later here we are!
2. How did Michael propose?
Michael organised to take us on a Champagne Cruise at Loch Lomond, but that morning he was acting quite moody telling me I had to get all dressed up and paint my nails nicely, so that was annoying me! After rushing me we ended up being too early so we went a walk along the beach but it started to rain so we took shelter under some trees. As we waited for the rain to pass a pigeon landed right in front of us and Michael was convinced there was something around its neck, as I turned back from looking he was down on one knee making the most beautiful speech and holding the ring. I was far too emotional to properly respond the first time so I made him do it again, so he actually propose twice!
3. Why did you choose the Western House Hotel for your Wedding Venue?
We think that The Western House has the whole package! It’s far enough away that it feels special but still close enough that it’s easy for our guests to reach. We also love that it’s perfect for both outdoor and indoor photographs as we are having a winter wedding. From day one we have felt that we are the only people getting married here and that our wedding is all that matters and that’s really special to us, as we know the staff have lots of couples to organise.
Of course, we had to catch up with the happy couple after their big day to find if it was everything they had hoped it would be;
We had the best day of our lives, everything was perfect, ran smoothly and the staff couldn't have been more helpful, they just helped to make our day run the way we wanted. We didn't have one favourite moment as there were too many amazing moments to choose from. What I will say is the day flew in so quickly! It was such a perfect day
