Here at Western House we love nothing more than sharing our couples special days with them, and with this in mind we thought we would launch a new feature on our website, Real Life Weddings so we can share some of them with you!
We will update this page seasonally featuring interviews and photographs of some of our wonderful couples and their wedding stories. Our next featured couple is Mr & Mrs Jackson who celebrated their beautiful wedding day with us here at Western House.
4. What was the best part of planning the Wedding?
Planning is what I do for a living so any kind of planning makes me happy, most enjoyable part for me was that the whole process brought mine and Lewis' family closer as we done lots of things together from dress shopping, taking everyone to see the venue and of course the hen weekends!
5. What would be your biggest piece of advice to newly engaged couples?
My advice would be do what you want on your day not what you think everyone else wants or what you think you should do and don’t stress because everything always works out.
6. What was the highlight of your wedding day?
My highlight of the day? Hard question as my day was absolutely perfect from start to finish! The sun was shining, the gardens at Western House were so nice and everyone got outside for the drinks reception which was a MUST for me on the day. Everything just seemed to flow perfectly and we (me, Lewis, Austin and Georgia) felt so comfortable at Western House and I think this is because we booked 2 years in advance and had been so many times in this period for various things that me, Lewis and our kids got to know the staff so well and it just made the day that bit more special.
1. How did you meet?
We met through work, unknowing to me Lewis and I had worked in the same place for 7 years. Lewis worked shifts as an electrician and with me being day shift we had never met. Lewis claims he had always seen me about the work place and always liked me but never had the courage to speak to me. Lewis then got a new job on day shift which meant we started crossing paths. Some of our work colleagues played matchmaker and then finally on a works night we got chatting and the rest is history!
2. Tell us about the proposal?
For our first Valentines date we went to Edinburgh and stayed at the Sheraton Hotel and every year after this we have went back to Edinburgh. When Lewis decided to propose he thought Valentine’s Day in Edinburgh back at the Sheraton Hotel would be perfect. So on that day we took our yearly trip to Edinburgh and went for lunch and drinks, but I knew there was something not right with Lewis which was annoying me and I was nagging at him but Lewis was just trying to find the perfect spot! So finally at Princes Street Gardens Lewis got down on one knee and popped the question, I was so shocked I grabbed the ring and immediately put it on my finger!
3. What made you choose the Western House Hotel for your Wedding Venue?
My job as a planner makes me a super organised person, so I got a list of nearly every venue in Scotland and had a list of all the dates I was going to see them. Western House was the 5th Venue I had seen out of my massive list and instantly when I arrived at Western House I fell in love with the driveway, the building, the gardens and the beautiful ballroom then to top it off the staff were outstanding and made me feel so comfortable. I then went on to view a lot more venues and none were anything like Western House, Lewis knew that was the venue I loved because of the way I spoke about it! Out of all the other Venues Western House was the only one I took Lewis to see and he loved it just as much as me.
The wedding was more than I hoped for, I never realised how amazing it would be. Thank you to everyone at Western House Hotel as they were a massive part in making my day so amazing!
